Covering One’s Head in the Washroom

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Is it important for a person to cover his or her head before entering to the washroom? And what is the reason behind it?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are well, insha’Allah.

It is recommended to cover one’s head when entering the washroom. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to wear slippers and cover his head when entering the toilet. [Bayhaqi, Sunan al-Kubra] Moreover, covering the head has been authentically established from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (Allah be pleased with him).

Therefore, doing so would be considered an expression of submissiveness and humility.

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam,
