Can One Still Shorten One’s Prayers the Day of Arriving Home?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question:As salaamu alaykum,

Can one still shorten one’s prayers at least on the day of arriving home after a travel?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

It is not permitted to shorten your prayers once you have arrived within your home city as the dispensation to shorten is only valid whilst one is actively travelling, and not when one is at “home,” or within one’s city.

And Allah alone knows best.

wassalam,
