Should I Break My Fast upon Hearing the Adhan Even If It Is Performed Too Early?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: I understand that we should hasten to break our fast once the adhan starts at Maghrib. However, where I am from, all of the mosques in the country follow the timings of a single mosque in the capital of the country. This makes my local mosque pronounce the adhan before the actual prayer time. Would it be permissible to fast according to the adhan?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

If you know for a fact that the adhan is being given early, you would not break your fast when you hear it.

But you should check this soundly, from sound sources and people, before acting.

And Allah alone gives success.

wassalam,
