Is it Permissible to Dissect Human Bodies for Educational Purposes?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Salman Younas

Question: My dental school allows students to perform dissection on cadavers (preserved dead human bodies).

Please can you clarify if this is permissible in Islam?

Answer: assalamu `alaykum

According to leading scholarly bodies, such as the Majma` al-Fiqh al-Islami and Fatwa Council of Azhar, it is permitted to dissect human bodies for educational purposes as long as it is (a) done with the prior permission of the deceased or his/her heirs and (b) in a manner that is dignified.
