What kind of worship can one do if menstruating? Especially these last days of Ramadan?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

The ways of worship are many. You can:

a) listen to Quran, and read its translation and commentary (tafsir);

There is great reward in listening to the Quran.

Reading its translation and commentary (tafsir) with reflection is considered study of the Quran, which is a means of mercy, light, and guidance in ones life. Arguably the best tafsir available in English is Maariful Quran
(see: http://www.alrashad.com/books/quran.htm)

b) perform much supplication:

In your own words, expressing your spiritual and worldly needs to Allah,

In the words of the Beloved of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), for they are the most beloved of words to Allah,

By reciting Hizbs (litanies) of the righteous scholars, gleamed from the expressions and guidance of the Quran and Sunna;

c) make much remembrance of Allah:

Repeating the sunna remembrances, such as

o Astaghfirullah (I seek Allahs forgiveness)

o Sending blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), such as saying Allahumma Salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa Alihi wa Sallim (O Allah, send blessings on our master Muhammad, his family, and give peace)

o La ilaha illa Allah (there is no god but Allah)

o Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)

o Alhamdu liLlah (All praise is Allahs)

o Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest)

d) reading or listening to inspiring words about the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)s life and person, and endeavoring to make his example and guidance primary in ones life, for that is the way of lovers: nothing is more beloved to them than the ways of their beloved. And this is the basis for the love of Allah, for He told the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) to tell us,

Say, if you love Allah then follow me and Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. [Quran, 3.31]

In order for ones worship to be fruitful, one should endeavor to:

a) clear all ones wrongs in ones dealings with others:

if you have wronged someone, seek their pardon;

if there is a material wrong, repay it, or endeavor to do so as soon as you can;

importantly, mend your relationship with your parents, and endeavor to treat them well for the rest of your life.

b) worship with the desire that to change ones life for good: to become of those who travel the path of the righteous in this life, in their worship, dealings with others, and character, on the path of the Beloved of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace).

c) ask Allah before beginning any action that He clothe it in sincerity, slavehood, and grant one the success to persevere.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
