Imam Malik states that trading in dogs is permissible irrespective of whether the dog is for guarding, hunting or any other purpose. Is it permissible to follow this.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

In the Hanafi school, it is permitted to sell guard dogs, hunting dogs, and other permissible uses. (Shaykh Zada, Majma` al-Anhur) One is to avoid selling dogs that are kept solely as pets. (Nu`mani, Tajih al-Rajih)
