Females listening to nasheeds (male voice)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Assalaamu Alaikum is it permissible for women to listen to the voice of male non Mahrams for exmaple the listening of Nasheeds as a sister was emotionally affected by the voice of Ahmad Bukhaatir and others maybe by Sami Yusuf…
Also, this might seem obvious but what about Qur’an? Or not..

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

It is permitted for women (as well as men) to listen to nasheeds that are permitted–namely, those free of impermissible instrument-use and impermissible content. Normally, people do not listen to religious songs out of desire or attraction for the singer. When this is the case, however, then one should stop such feelings or stop listening.

And Allah alone gives success.
