On marble floors how does one clean off najasa?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is permitted to merely wipe away filth (najasa) from flat surfaces without noticeable holes or indentations. This would be enough to render them pure in the Hanafi school.

However, if one wants to exercise caution, it would be recommended to actually wash the area, in order to avoid the difference of opinion of the Shafi`i and Hanbali schools, where mere wiping is not sufficient. [Nawawi, al-Majmu` Sharh al-Muhadhdhab, 2.621; Ruhaybani, Sharh Ghayat al-Muntaha, 1.226]

Imam Kasani explained the Hanafi position in his Bada’`i al-Sana’i`, saying,

“If filth has affected a solid, smooth [f: non-porous] surface, such as a sword, mirror, and the like, it is rendered ritually pure by scraping, whether it is wet or dry, because none of the filth penetrates it, and its outer surface is rendered pure by wiping and scraping.” [Kasani, Bada’i` al-Sana’i`, 1.85]

This is confirmed in the major Hanafi works, such as al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya [1.43], quoting al-Muhit, al-Tabyin, pointing out, however, that,

“If it is rough or has holes, it is not rendered pure merely by wiping, as mentioned in al-Tabyin.” [ibid.]

And Allah alone gives success.
