Joining the congregation prayer late

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I have come across various stances regarding the rules to joining prayer. At what point is it considered that you have missed a raka’ah when joining the prayer? is there a difference of opinion on this issue? please help.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Wa Alaykum Assalam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

You are considered to have caught the rakat if you caught the imam in the bowing (ruku) position—you need to have reached bowing position while the imam was still bowing.
