Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

What do the Sunni ulema say about the uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Talib: did he die a disbeliever?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad, his folk, companions, and followers

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah

  1. It is not my concern–I won’t be asked about the iman of anyone but myself on the Day of Judgment;
  2. It is the way of my teachers that they follow the well-trodden way of Sunni scholarship in matters of faith and fiqh;
  3. We don’t talk about things–even if true–that express or even imply impropriety towards the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the very purpose and light of creation.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
