Friday prayer: valid if prayer led by other than the khatib?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is the Jumu`a valid -in the Hanafi madhab- if the jumu`a is held by two imams i.e. a first one reads the khutba and then a second does the two rakat of prayers?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It is valid–though improper if without genuine excuse–for the Friday prayer to be led by other than the one who gave the Friday sermon (khutba). [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
