At what distance is one considered a traveller?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abu Usamah

Am I considered a traveler? I’m a student studying in Birmingham, my home residence is at London. Am I a traveler when I move from London to Birmingham? I heard that I am only a traveler if I intend to stay at university (Birmingham) for a maximum of 15 days, is this correct?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Respected Brother,

I’m not sure of the distance between London and Birmingham. If the distance from the borders of the two cities is 77km or more then when you leave London for Birmingham you will become a traveler.

On reaching Birmingham you will remain a traveler unless you decide to stay there for full fifteen days or more, in which case you will no longer be a traveller.
