Fasting: Nursing and Expiation

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

I am nursing my baby. During Ramadan i couldnt fast all the days. I tried to enquire about the fidya if i am required to pay. The Qadha fasts i shall insha Allah definitely accomplish as soon as my baby starts weaning. I tried to fast as much as i could but at times i use to feel quiet dehydrated, dizzy and once had high fever. Thats the reason i couldnt fast all the days.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

May Allah grant you strength, well-being, and righteous offspring.

In the Hanafi school, a nursing woman unable to fast [search www.SunniPath.com for details] is obligated to make up the missed days, but does not have to give any type of expiation (fidya). [Ibn Abidin/Haskafi, Radd al-Muhtar `ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar] The reason for this is that the Qur’anic verse on those unable to fast due to an excuse simply stipulates making up the fast when able. [Kasani, Bada’i` al-Sana’i`]

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
