Duas in Prayer

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Firstly, is it Sunnah when bowing down in Sajdah, to first touch the ground with our hands or with our knees? And how is it when we get up?

Secondly, are the following ahadith authentic or prescribed in the hanafi madhhab? Please Help!
 —–
1. The Prophet used to say in Rukoo’: “How Perfect is my Lord, the Supreme, and Praised be He (WA BI HAMDIHI)” three times. (saheeh, transmitted by Abu Daawood, Daaraqutni, Ahmad, Tabaraani & Baihaqi)

2. He would sometimes also say: “How Perfect You are O Allaah, and Praises are for You. O Allaah, forgive me (SUBHANA KALLA HUMMA WA BI HAMDIKA ALLAHUMMAGHFIRLI).” (Bukhaari & Muslim)

3. The Prophet used to say in Sujood: “How Perfect is my Lord, the Most High, and Praised be He (WA BI HAMDIHI)” three times. (saheeh, transmitted by Abu Daawood, Daaraqutni, Ahmad, Tabaraani & Baihaqi)

4. And he would sometimes also add: “How perfect You are O Allaah, our Lord, and Praised. O Allaah! Forgive me (SUBHANA KALLA HUMMA WA BI HAMDIKA ALLAHUMMAGHIRLI).” (Bukhaari & Muslim)

5. In this sitting (between the prostrations), the Prophet would say: “O Allaah! Forgive me; have mercy on me; strengthen me; raise my rank; guide me; pardon me; sustain me (ALLAHUMMAGHFIRLI WAR HAMNI WAJ BURNI WAR FA’NI WAH DINI WA ‘AAFINI WAR ZUQNI).” (Abu Daawood, Tirmidhi, Ibn Maajah & Haakim, who declared it saheeh and Dhahabi agreed.)

6. Or sometimes, he would say: “O my Lord! Forgive me, forgive me. (RABBI  IGHFIRLI IGHFIRLI).” (Ibn Maajah with a hasan sanad. Imaam Ahmad chose to supplicate with this one; Ishaaq bin Raahawaih said, “If he wishes, he can say this three times, or he can say O Allaah! Forgive me …, because both of them have been reported from the Prophet between the two sajdahs.” (Masaa’il of Imaam Ahmad & Ishaaq bin Raahawaih as related by Ishaaq al-Marwazi, p. 19))

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaikum,

The person praying alone or behind the imam may recite such supplications [see below], after the 3 tasbihs, in any prayer. Such prophetic supplications are recommended in nafl prayers. [Radd al-Muhtar, Imdad al-Fatawa]

The imam should not do so, however, as it is considered elongating one’s prayer, which is prohibitively disliked for the imam. [Durr al-Mukhtar]

One goes into sajda knees first.

It is unwise to even READ the material published by Salafis. Even noted contemporary Salafi’ scholars’ are notorious in misunderstanding, misquoting, and misinterpreting texts. Give them a miss.

Walaikum assalam,
Faraz Rabbani.
