If qurbani is wajib, is one required to make qada for neglecting this obligation in the past? Is making qada wajib/sunnah?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

It is wajib to make up for the past neglected sacrifices of the previous years if one was the owner of nisab; the minimum that necessitates zakat, during those years., but first one should make repentance to Allah and ask his forgiveness for neglecting it.

One will have to give sadaqah of the calculated value of all the sacrificial animals which one should have sacrificed in the past years.

Allama Haskafi mentions in Dur-al-Mukhtar as follows:

If one does not perform the sacrifice and the days pass by then one has to give sadaqa…

Allama Ibn Abidin mentions in its commentary as follows:

It is mentioned in Nihaya…if one does not perform the sacrifice then one has to give sadaqa of the value of the animal…

(Hashiya Rad-al-Muhtar V.6 pg 320)

One has to remember it is wajib upon women too to fulfill the the sacrifice if they are the owner of nisab. If they have no money, but possess sufficient gold and silver then they should take the money from their husbands for discharging the obligation or the husband can sacrifice on her behalf with their permission and the sacrifice will be discharged.

And Allah Knows Best
