Breeding and selling guard dogs

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I would like to buy a dog for gurding purposes, my area is safe but i we have had my car break in and my brother things have been stolen. I guess my question is we are not in dire need of getting a gurd dog, however i would like to buy one and breed it with the intention of making money and selling them as gurd dogs. somewhat like an investment, will it be permissible to buy one and will the money gained from the breeding be halal.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaikum wa rahamtullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

It is valid to sell dogs. [Marghinani, Hidaya] It is allowed to do so without dislike if the dogs are of the type used in permissible ways–such as guard dogs, shepherd dogs, and guide dogs for the blind. [Numani, Tarjih al-Rajih; Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
