Can Mirena coil be used for heavy and continuous periods as advised by a doctor?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Assalamu-alaikum warahamtulahee wabarakatuhoo

I would like to know whether it is permissible to have the mirena coil fitted if a person is suffering from heavy and continuous periods?
This was a recommendation of the person’s doctor.

This particular method (coil) is usually used as a contraceptive. However the intention here is not for birth control but [i:e622ead9d5]to[/i:e622ead9d5] control heavy and prolonged bleeding.
Looking forward to a prompt reply.
Jazakallah for your time and may Allah (swt) reward your efforts – aameen.

Wassalmu-alaikum

P.S. Below is a link to some information about the mirena coil.
