Can a woman do i’tikaaf at home if unsure about starting her period?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
If a women wants to do i’tikaaf in her home and is not certain whether or not she will start her period in the last few days would it still be permissble for her to do i’tikaaf?

Does haidh stop one from doing i’tikaaf.
When exactly does the 10 day i’tikaaf start?

Answer
Bismillah

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

No, it is not permissible to do the I’tikaf. Therefore, it is necessary for a woman to be free from Haidh (menstruation) and Nifas in order to perform I’tikaf.

If however, a woman is not certain when her periods will start and then she started her I’tikaf, and thereafter menstruation commences during the duration of I’tikaf, then it is Wajib upon her to immediately abandon I’tikaf, as soon as her menstruation commences. In such a situation it is Wajib upon her to make Qadha I’tikaf of only the day in which she abandoned the I’tikaf (as a result of the intervention of menstruation).

And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
