Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)
The money that you earn which is equal to/or exceeds the value of Nisab, and which is possessed for a full Islamic year, the payment of Zakat will become compulsory upon you. The rate of Zakat is 2.5%. This is due any time of the year, it is recommended that the Zakah is given during Ramadhan, because of the Hadith with states that we receive extra blessings for any Sadaqah done during Ramadan.
The cure for your greed is that you give Zakah and Sadaqah to the poor and needy, and to any Islamic cause. Remember, you must struggle against your Nafs in doing good deeds and obeying Allah Ta’ala and His Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Allah Ta’ala says, “Those who strive hard in our cause (worships), We will guide them in our paths (to the Deen), Indeed Allah is with those who do good deeds.” (45:69)
For example, When a person finds hard to give Zakah, he must struggle against his Nafs and desires (of greed) tryng to control and conquer it, then Allah will open and guide him to the paths and make it easy for him to give Zakah. Indeed He is with such people.
We also must have trust in Allah Ta’ala. Allah Ta’ala says, “And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish his purpose..” (65:2-3)
Muslims are commanded to give Zakah.
Allah Ta’ala says,
“Establish your prayers, pay the Zakah, and bow with those who bow.” (2:43)
“Establish your prayers and pay the Zakah. Whatever good you shall forward for your soul you shall find it with Allah. He is the Seer of what you do.” (2:110)
“Those who believe and do good works, establish the prayers and pay the Zakah, will be rewarded by their Lord and will have nothing to fear or to regret.” (2:277)
“Establish the prayers, pay the Zakah, and obey the Messenger, in order to have mercy.”(24:56)
“Those who (in charity) spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public have their reward with their Lord. On them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.” (2:274)
“
that which you give for charity, seeking the Countenance of Allah, (will increase); it is those who will get a recompense multiplied.” (30:39)
