Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Assalam-o-alykum,
I am trying to do 6 razas in the month of shawaal because of their significance.I have missed few roza’s of ramadaan. For which i have an intention of keeping them inshalla this year.some one told me that i have to keep all my qazaa roza’s of many years first than i can fast for Shawaal.could you please explain how does that work.I became ill about 10 years ago,but still trying to fast in the holly month of ramadaan.

Answer
Bismihi Ta’ala

According to your query, it is permissible for you to keep the fasts of Shawwal ahead of Qadha for the missed fasts for previous years.

A person has the choice of making up for the missed fasts whenever possible. However, great importance must be given to the making up of such missed fasts as they are extremely important and must not be neglected. They are like a debt and responsibility on the shoulders of the person who missed them, and efforts to complete them should be made.

And Allah knows best.
