Is it ethical to end the life of a baby born without a spinal cord?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
I SAW A BABY BORN WITHOUT SPINAL CORD , DOCTORS SAID BABY WILL NEVER
LIVE LIKE NORMAL BABY, SO KILL HIM, THAN BABY’S PARENTS GOT IDEA FROM LOCAL SCHOLAR
HE ALSO SAID KILL HIM WITH MEDICINE BECAUSE LIFE WOULD BE VERY PAINFULL FOR BABY.
TELL ME IT WAS RIGHT OR WRONG?

Answer
Assalamu’alaikum w.w.

Muslim scholars allow termination of pregnancy due to the reasons you mention before 4 months. After 4 months and once the child is born, it would not be permissible to terminate life under any condition. Why did the Doctors not detect this through a scan early on during pregnancy? I’m sure a missing spinal cord should be easy to detect?
