Can an adopted brother receive equal inheritance as biological siblings in the UK?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
salaam i would like to know that when my father came to the uk he brought his brothers son as his own with him my father died a few years ago and we now want to split his inheritence between all the family we are 3 brothers and 3 sisters and our adopted brother and our mum. does our adopted brother get treated the same as a son or not .he has lived with us all his time here in the uk and we respect him like our real brother and would like to share everything with him equally if this is permissible.

Bismillah

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

It should be remembered that although an adopted child cannot inherit from his adoptive father, but it is permissible, rather advisable, for him that he, in his lifetime, makes a will in favour of his adopted son. Through such a will he can bequeath upto one third of his property to his adopted child who cannot otherwise share his inheritance.

And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
