1/Is it permissible to gharge or accept hadyah for amaliyyat or tawezat?
Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)
It is Narrated from Alaqah ibn Sahar at-Tamimi:
We proceeded from the Apostle of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and came to a clan of the Arabs.
They said: We have been told that you have brought what is good from this man. Have you any medicine or a charm, for we have a lunatic in chains?
We said: Yes. Then they brought a lunatic in chains. He said: I recited Surat al-Fatihah over him for three days, morning and evening. Whenever I finished it, I would collect my saliva and spit it out, and he seemed as if he were set free from a bond. He said: They gave me some payment, but I said: No, not until I ask the Apostle of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: Accept it, for, by my life, some accept it for a worthless charm, but you have done so for a genuine one.
(Abu Dawud, Book: Medicine, Chapter: Ruqya and Book: Wages, Chapter: The income of doctors)
To take fee for Ruqya or medicine it is permissible according to all Jurists.
It is also understood from the last statement of the Hadith “Accept it, for, by my life, some accept it for a worthless charm, but you have done so for a genuine one,” that;
There are two types of Ruqya or (Taweez), permissible and non permissible; Permissible Ruqya is that which is derived from the Quran and Hadith. For example, the recitation of Surah Ikhlas, Falaq, Naas, Ayatul Kursi etc.
Non permissible Ruqya or (Taweez) is that which is made up of words besides the Quran and hadith, and the person seeking the Ruqya/Taweez places his full trust in the Ruqya/Taweez itself and not in Allah Taala. Then this is Haraam and Sinful.
Conclusion: It is permissible to take fee on the condition that one knows how to do it and is free from impermissible words i.e. words besides the Quran and Hadith. Also, there is no fix charge according to Shari’ah, but based on mutual agreement. And doing it free of charge there is much reward.
