When does liking something haram become a sin?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Salaam

I want to know when a sin becomes a sin, for example I use 2 eat a lot of food that contained gelatine like sweets which is Haraam. Even though I havent eaten something like that for a long time i still think it tastes nice & I enjoyed eating it. so just having the thought of liking/thinking about something Haraam even though you know its Haraam, Is that a sin or is it only a sin when you actually commit the act.

Jazakallah

Answer

In the name of Allah the Merciful

It is a Sin when you commit the act. Furthermore, thinking that the Haraam food and the Haraam act was enjoying is a form of ridicule to the laws set by Allah, and this “istihzaa? (ridicule, mockery) will constitute a sin. You should try to think of good things and engage in Halal. Try and refrain from thinking good about something which Allah in his infinite wisdom made Haraam. Lastly thinking that the gelatin tasted nice may lead you back into the sin of eating it. If the Haraam act hated for the sake of Allah, it will become easy to avoid thinking good of Haram.

And Allah the All-Knowing knows best
