Can Baaligh women sing nasheeds in public or only to family and close female friends?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Assalamualaykum

I have many thoughts and feeling about this question. I am twelve years old and I am rather confused. I am Baaligh, so would i be allowed to sing in public. When i sing, i mean nasheeds and all that. I enjoy singing to my family and close female friends. My parents allow me to but I am just told several times that i was not allowed to sing in public as I am Baaligh, but is that true? Are women allowed to sing in public(ghair mehrams and women)?

Jazakallah

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

1) Naats, Nazms, Nasheeds that are rendered in praise of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) or have other good permissible content and words that are in conformity to the Shariah are permissible.

It will be permissible for a Baligh (mature) male to pray Nasheeds in open as long as he abides by the following 4 conditions, i.e.

1. The reciter must be a pious Baligh (mature) bearded person.
2. The audience should be more or less the same.
3. The content must be about Allah Ta’ala and His Rasool (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wa Sallam) or something to do with righteousness and piety.
4. There should not be any type of musical instruments.

Females should not pray Nashheds etc, in the presence of non Mahram males. Similarly, it is Haraam for males to listen to non Mahram females.
