As salafism is growing locally rather than centrally their ethos differs from region to region and as such it is difficult to define them comprehensively. For example some salafis in South Asian countries refuse to acknowledge Ijama and Qiyas as a source of proof whilst many British salafis accept it. The common denominator amongst most salafi groups is that they believe Taqleed should not be done i.e. no particular school of thought should be followed.

Forsaking Taqleed and relying on one’s own judgement, amongst many other things, can leave a person susceptible to following their whims and making unqualified conclusions.

The importance and validity of doing Taqleed and the effect of discarding it is one that requires detail. There have been many books written by qualified Ulamaa on the subject. It is recommended that one of these be referred to and then discussed with a specialist Alim on the subject. Alternatively, you may ask specific questions about it on this site. والله أعلم

Public Notes
I recommend reading ‘The legal status of following a madhab’ by Mufti Taq Usmani. This book as well as being easily accessible to the general public is also very informative and provides an overview on the subject of taqleed.
