when a person is praying salaat with jammat in zohr/asr does he have to recites surah fatha and a surah. is there any namaaz in which a person needs to recite quran in?

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

The Muqtadi (follower) does not recite Surah faithah and Surah in Jam’aat Salaah (whether it be a quite or a loud recitiation Salaah) behind the Imaam. The Imaam’s recitiation suffices for the entire congregation. The Imaam is as it were, the representative for the entire congregation.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam said: “Whoever prays behind the Imaam, the Qir’aah (recitation of the Qur’aan) of the Imaam is Qir’aah for him (meaning the Imaam’s recitation is sufficient for him).

So, when the Qur’ân is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. [i.e. during the compulsory congregational prayers when the Imâm (of a mosque) is leading the prayer
