Joining the Imaam after three rakaats

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If I join Zuhr Salaah behind the Imaam after 3 rakaats, what is the correct procedure to join and complete the Salaah? What should I recite after standing up after the Imaam has made salaam? Surah Fatiha only ? Surah Fatiha and a Surah?

Bismillaah

A: When the Imaam makes salaam, you will not make salaam with the Imaam, instead you will stand up to complete the three missed rakaats. In the first rakaat you will recite thana, taawwuz and tasmiyah and you will thereafter recite Surah Faatiha and a Surah. After completing this rakaat, you will not stand up for the next rakaat, instead you will sit in tashahhud. After completing the tashahhud you will stand up and recite Surah Faatiha and a Surah and go into ruku. After completing the both sajdahs you will stand up for your last rakaat and only recite Surah Faatiha. You will complete the balance of the namaaz in the normal manner.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
