Should I Contribute to My Daughter’s Groom’s Walimah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I need your advice. My daughter intends to get married but only wants nikaah the Sunnah way. She does not want a wedding. The groom is having a walimah. Will it be right to contribute half the expense and invite some more of my family to the walimah?

Bismillaah

A: It is Sunnah for the boys party to carry out the walimah. The custom prevalent nowadays that the expenses of the walimah be shared between the boys and girls party opposes the sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and hence should be omitted.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
