Do Sins Alter Destiny?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I would like to ask if sins change one’s destiny?

Bismillaah

A: Whatever transpires is recorded in taqdeer. Allah Ta’ala has given man an equal choice and ability to carry out righteous deeds or evil deeds. Hence if a person carries out good deeds, he is rewarded and Allah Ta’ala blesses him in this world. Accordingly if a person carries our evil deeds, he becomes worthy of punishment and on account of his misdeeds evil consequences follow. All this is also recorded in taqdeer. Allah Ta’ala says in the Holy Qur’an:

Whatever misfortune befalls you, it is due to what your hands have earned, and for many (sins) He grants forgiveness.

Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
