Different fluids that come out of a male private part

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I have heard that there is a fluid which comes out of the male private part(not semen) which does not make ghusal necessary. Is it correct? And how can one tell the difference between the two fluids?

Bismillaah

A: There are basically three liquids besides urine that come out of a male private part:

(1) Wadi – this is secreted after urine on account of some sickness.

(2) Mazi – Pre-coital fluid secreted at the time of arousal. It is thin and sticky.

In the case of both, only wudhu breaks.

(3) Mani – semen. If it comes out with desire, irrespective of whether due to fanaticizing, touching or relationship with one’s spouse, it will necessitate ghusal.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
