Selling a photo with faces of people online

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: A person in his days prior to becoming a practising Muslim, had attended a soccer match at a big stadium. In the match he had taken photos. He had then sold a photo of the stadium on the internet and earned money from people using it for e.g. magazines etc. There are figures visible on the photo but no faces clearly seen.Would it be permissible to earn money from selling this photo? If not, how should he purify his wealth from these earnings.

Bismillaah

A: If the faces are visible then obviously the the satr will be exposed and there may be other impermissible things that are captured as well. The better thing is to not use the wealth. Rather give it to someone deserving.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
