Reading Surah Yaseen for the Deceased: Myths and Benefits

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. Is it true that reading a yaseen for a marhoom prevents any azaab that may be present in the respected grave of that marhoom for the day?

2. Apart from asking for their forgiveness are there any other surahs that can be read to specially benefit the marhoom?

Bismillaah

A:

1. The Qur’aan Shareef and good deeds have got their own effect. If Allah Ta`ala wills the good deed may be a means to turn away punishments and difficulties.

2. Any part of the Qur’aan is recommended. 70 000 “Laa ilaaha illallah” guarantees Jannah. It could be recited and the thawaab transferred to the mayyit.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
