Mandela’s Character: Not Islamic?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Some Aalims spoke about Mandela’s ‘Islamic character’ in their talks in the Musjid. Please elaborate as to why this is inappropriate.

Bismillaah

A: A musjid is not meant to discuss political agendas etc. Every politician has an independent agenda. If there are those that speak for the person then there are those that speak against him. Hence, the congregation feels intimidated and very uncomfortable with this type of discussions. Rather we discuss those personalities that the Qur’aan and hadeeth have spoken off in which none of us can have any hesitation or reservation.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
