Imaam turning towards the congregation after Salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Why do Barelwi Imaams after the Salaam of the Salaah turn towards the North-West for supplication (in the case of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc.)?

Bismillaah

A: The Sunnah method after Salaah is that the Imaam turns towards the congregation and engage in tasbeeh and dua. The Fuqaha explain the reason for the Imaam turning towards the congregation after the fardh Salaah is so that the Imaam’s back does not face towards the congregation without any need and so that a person who enters the musjid understands that the Salaah is complete.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
