Tamattu Hajj

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by

Q: I am planing to perform nafil haj and bestow it’s rewards to my late parents and elder brother. Please guide me with the detailed procedure for the same. Also let me know whether after rami on 10 th of Zil Haj can I do the Halaq at Makkah instead of Mina and also how many Qurbani should I offer. Lastly since I will be a musafir can I perform sunnat salat also at Makkah, Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifa and Madinah?

The method of tamattu` hajj is that you will tie your ihraam before the meeqaat with the niyyat of performing umrah. Thereafter you will proceed to Makkah Mukarramah and perform the umrah as normal with tawaaf and sa`ee between Safa and Marwa. Upon the completion of the umrah you will shave your head and come out of the state of ihraam, and thereafter remain in Makkah as normal until the days of hajj. Before the commencement of hajj you will put on the ihraam of hajj in the haram area. Thereafter you will proceed to Mina and perform the hajj as normal. Additionally, since you are performing tamattu` hajj, it is wajib to slaughter a dam animal for the tamattu` hajj after pelting the jamarah on the 10th of Zul Hijjah. This will be done before shaving the head and coming out of the ihraam of hajj.

You will do one qurbaani for tamattu`.

Yes, there is no harm in performing it provided you are not going to inconvenience any of your companions and saathies.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
