Permissible Banking: Jobs and Loans.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. Is it permissible for a person to do a job in a bank when he can not get any other job?

2. Is it permissible for a person to take a loan from a bank (for home) or to start his own bussiness?

Bismillaah

A:

1. If the job is of a permissible nature e.g. sweeping, making tea, it will be permissible, however being part of an interest-based operation is detestable.

2. Since the loan the bank provides is an interest bearing loan, it will be haraam.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
