Buying a Salon: Navigating Halal and Haram Practices

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I’m considering buying a salon and I have a few questions to ask.

1. If I buy the salon I know it’s haram for males to cut females hair but I won’t allow that. So would it be ok if I did buy it and let females cut females hair?

2. Is it haram on me though I won’t be the one cutting hair? So what I’m trying to ask is it okay for me to buy a salon and what’s the haram parts to it. What should I do?

Bismillaah

A:

1. Cutting of females’ hair is also impermissible.

2. We will not encourage you to open a salon, as we understand that most cliental will want something or the other that is impermissible, like cutting the hair in kuffaar styles or dressing the hair according to their fashions etc.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
