What does عصبية mean?

Q: I am having difficulty understanding a hadeeth which I read in Muntakhab Ahaadeeth under the chapter ‘Rights of a Muslim’, hadeeth number 172. The narration of Fusailah Rahmatullahi Aleiha. Also could you explain the real meaning of العصبية to me.

bismillah.jpg

A: عصبية means to support one’s party (even though they are on wrong) on the basis of them being from the same party, not on the basis of truth. This prejudice and partial conduct is referred to as عصبية.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
