Baking birthday cakes, valentines day cakes, mothers day cakes etc.

Q: My sister bakes and sells cakes from home, she mostly bakes birthday cakes, novelty cakes, wedding cakes, valentines day cakes, mothers day cakes etc. Is it permissible?

A: It is permissible to bake cakes and sell. However Islam does not recognise valentines day, birthdays, mothers day, etc. These are kuffaar customs and festivals. Hence it will be makrooh for her to bake these types of cakes for people to celebrate these occasions.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
