Q: Do males have to ‘wash’ their beard when performing wudhu or simply do khilaal/masah?
A: If the beard is thin and the skin of the face is visible, then it is compulsory that water reaches the skin. However if the beard is thick and the skin of the face is not visible, then one should wash the face and beard. It is not compulsory to ensure that water reaches the skin.
And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
(وغسل جميع اللحية فرض) يعني عمليا (أيضا) على المذهب الصحيح المفتى به المرجوع إليه، وما عدا هذه الرواية مرجوع عنه كما في البدائع. ثم لا خلاف أن المسترسل لا يجب غسله ولا مسحه بل يسن، وأن الخفيفة التي ترى بشرتها يجب غسل ما تحتها كذا في النهر. وفي البرهان: يجب غسل بشرة لم يسترها الشعر كحاجب وشارب وعنفقة في المختار (ولا يعاد الوضوء) بل ولا بل المحل (بحلق رأسه ولحيته كما لا يعاد) الغسل للمحل ولا الوضوء (بحلق شاربه وحاجبه وقلم ظفره) وكشط جلده (الدر المختار 1/100)
