Inheriting and Leaving Percentages: Navigating Family Dynamics

Q: I am married have a son and daughter, I want to know what the inheritance percentages are supposed to be. My mother is also still alive. What is the percentage I am supposed to leave for her as well?

A: If these are the only surviving heirs at the time of your death then the estate will be divided into 36 equal shares and distributed as follows:

Husband will receive 9 shares

Mother will receive 6 shares

Son will receive 14 shares

Daughter will receive 7 shares

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
