Clarifying the Hadith on the Dajjal: Two Eyes or One?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: This is far distant in my thoughts but I heard there is a hadith its like about the prophet doubted not so sure or the companions I don’t really remember a man they thought was the dajjal (I don’t remember well). I dont know if they said that but anyways if they did isn’t the dajjal like has 2 eyes but I think 1 is defective. Also i think maybe not that there are 2 scholarly opinions saying that one dajjal is a man or I don’t really know. I need some clarification.

A: Dajjaal will appear at his own time. He has been given certain extra ordinary powers. Perhaps among those powers is the ability to appear at different places at the same time. This is one of the explanations of the hadeeth. Hence, the entire incident was in order to investigate that is this the same Dajjaal or not. Many Sahaabah, like Hadhrat Umar and Ibnu Umar (radhiyallahu anhuma) were convinced that this is the very same Dajjaal.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
