Performing nafil Salaah according to a different mazhab

Q: I am a follower of the hanafi madhab and I am not a ghayr muqallid. Dear mufti i would like to know if it is permissible to offer nafl salah according to another madhab. I apologise if my question is not suitable.

A: The purpose for which one is required to follow an Imaam is so that one may be able to adhere to the laws of Shari’ah and the Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) in every facet of his life. When the goal is achieved through following one Imaam who is guiding one towards Allah Ta’ala, there is no need for one to follow another Imaam in these aspects (i.e. offering nafil Salaah, etc). One should remain committed to the mazhab he follows.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
