Delaying Walimah: Is it Permissible to Wait 3 Weeks?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am from Durban and getting married in Cape Town and therefore cannot have a walima within 3 days. Is it permissible to have a walimah 3 weeks later?

A: Walimah is a Mubaarak Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) which can be carried out till the third day after consummating the nikaah. It is Sunnah for the husband to carry out the walimah. One does not have to invite many people for this Sunnah to be accomplished. Inviting few people and feeding them with the intention of walimah is sufficient.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
