Inheriting with Clarity: Understanding the Rands and Cents of Estate Distribution

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Could you assist me in defining the amount inherited if , I pass away and I leave 2 daughters, a wife and both parents with only R10000 left in my estate after all debts are paid out. I understand the percentage slipt but to make life easy for those who are reading and trying to understand my will, I would like for them to know by contrast what the percentage split would be in Rands.

A: If the only surviving heirs at the time of your demise are your wife, two daughters, and both parents, then your estate will be divided into 27 equal shares and distributed as follows:

Wife will receive 3 shares = R1111.11

Each daughter will receive 8 shares = R2962.96

Mother will receive 4 shares = R1481.48

Father will receive 4 shares = R1481.48

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
