Family Planning in Islam: Permissible Methods and Restrictions

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I want to ask if family planning allowed in Islam? Or is it permissible for a woman to use a copper T to give some gap between pregnencies. Is it allowed to use contraceptives? Is using a condom allowed to prevent pregnancy?

A: If the contraceptive measures are not harmful to the health nor does it terminate a foetus that is already in the process of development then it will not be counted as a sin if someone did it for some type of valid reason, like health etc.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
