Halaal Food in Christian-Owned Restaurants and Fast Food Chains: What You Need to Know

Q: If I eat halaal food like fish in a Christian owned restaurant where they also sell liquor, do you think this food would be halaal? Another question is that the place where I stay there are KFC and McDonalds, they proclaim themselves to be halaal because  they got some official documents of halaal certifications. So should we believe them as Halaal or what’s the procedure now?

A: It is impermissible for a believer to eat in a restaurant wherein alcohol is served. A believer should exercise maximum precaution in this regard and not purchase from such restaurants. It is highly possible that alcohol could be added in the food or the traces of alcohol could be found on the utensils used to serve the food. Similarly, it is best and safer for one’s Deen that one exercise restraint and caution in regard to eating from restaurants that are owned and managed by kuffaar due to the fear of contamination.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
