Tajweed Rules: Correctness and Completeness

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: These are the tajweed rules I know. Please tell me if they are correct and if there are any more.

Ghunna – Nasal sound

Idghaam Meem Saakin – Nasal sound

Idghaam – Nasal sound

Qalb – Nasal sound

Qalqala – jerk or bounce when stopping at certain letters

Ikhfa Meem Saakin – light nasal sound

Ikhfa – light nasal sound

Does the 2 Ikhfas have to be light or can it be like the others (Heavy Ghunna)?

A:

Idghaam does not always have to be a nasal sound.

Jerk may not convey the exact meaning of qalqalah. You may say that is a rebounding sound.

The other explanations seem to be correct.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
