Lying in order to get a council home

Q: I asked my wife to put tenant in the house. She said no and wants to apply council house. This means she will tell the council she is single despite me living with her. Will my rented house income become haram? What do I do?

A: A mu’min should not lie and deceive. Nabi (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “The one who cheats and deceives is not from amongst us”. However the income from your rented house will be Halaal.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
